Custom Course Plan The Course Planning Sheet opens to the Customizable Credit Sheet page
Start in the top left and work your way right and then down
Click on a cell with a black border and shaded interior
You will see a small box with an arrow appear to the right of the cell you have chosen
And the name in the cell will appear in the text box
Click on the square with the arrow to the right of the cell you chose
A drop down menu of choices for that elective will appear
Highlight the class you want to enter into your course plan and click on it
That course will populate the cell you chose and the text box
These boxes are interactive from top to bottom. If you choose Survey of Calculus, it removes Calculus II from your Math 2 choices
Continue this process, going down each group, before moving to the right to the next group, and completing each row of groups before moving down to the next row of groups
Once you have completed all the course selections, click on the Working Plan tab at the bottom of the screen
Before you made your changes, the working plan looked like this, with the Custom Course Plan categories in the cells
Now it looks like this, with all your choices inserted into the cells Note that the custom plan does not affect the course hours calculation
Menu Based Course Plan Click on the tab labeled Working Plan
This worksheet opens up
You only have to make choices in the black bordered shaded cells at the top of the page
The EIA Exception Due to the variety of classes that satisfy the EIA language requirement, any attempt to integrate those classes into the Menu system would have resulted in a cumbersome mess Therefore, EIA students using the Menu Based Course Plan must enter the courses used to satisfy their Language Requirement in the Customizable Credit Sheet worksheet
Now, click on the Customizable Credit Sheet
Complete just the Language Classes as if you were performing an Custom Course Plan
Now, click on the Working Plan tab
Notice that the Language Electives are the ones you chose in the Customizable Credit Sheet
These cells operate just like the ones in the Customizable Course Plan sheet
Having selected a primary focus of Industrial Organization, secondary focus of Advanced Industrial Organization, a minor in Math-Stats, and a certificate in Accounting, this student has a complete plan
If you click on the tab for the Full Plan worksheet, you can see a printable version of your entire course plan without blanks
While you may need to adjust the font size for classes with larger names, you now have an overall plan ready for printing
You can modify a Menu Based Plan by using the Custom Options in the drop down menus in the Working Plan
Find the class you want to change Suppose that you want to change the Special Topics course to Economic and Financial Modeling
Then click the Menu box that determines the class for the cell occupied by the class you want to change
Set that menu to Custom – it is always the last choice
Determine the which cells reverted to the Customizable Course Plan settings
Click on the Customizable Credit Sheet tab
Identify the electives that you need to modify
In this case, start by setting Econ Elective 2 to ECON 4360 Network Economics, which you did not want to change
Then set Econ Elective 3 to ECON 3150 Econ & Finance Modeling to make the change you want to see
Then click on the Working Plan tab
You can see that the changes you want have appeared on the Working Plan worksheet
The power of the Working Sheet Make sure that you whatever changes you want to make appear on the Working Sheet as it is the foundation of all other sheets Full Plan Remaining Classes Core Area Check Sheet
Next, click on the Full Plan tab
Notice that the Full Plan worksheet reflects the change you made in the Working Plan worksheet
Now, click the Remaining Classes tab
Notice that it is currently identical to the Full Plan worksheet This will change as you tell the Excel program that you have competed classes
Now, click the Class Status tab
Here you will find every class in the catalog listed by course identifier and name with a black bordered shaded cell next to it
The power of the Course Status worksheet The Course Status worksheet keeps track of the classes you have completed (or at least believe you will complete) successfully and modifies other important pages Remaining Courses Core Area Check Sheet
Suppose that you are taking ECON 2106 Principles of Microeconomics and are making an A at the midterm Just scroll to the right until you find the Economics Section
Then click the black bordered shaded box to the right of ECON 2106 Prin of Microeconomics
Just as before, a small box with a down arrow will appear
Click the square then select Completed
You will notice the box turns green and says Completed
Now click on the Full Plan tab
You will notice that nothing changed This page remains static as long as you do not change the Working Plan worksheet
Now click the Remaining Classes tab
Notice that the box that did contain ECON 2106 Prin of Micoreconomics is no longer visible
Now, click on the Class Status worksheet
Once in the Class Status worksheet, change the status of the following classes to Completed Math 1501: Calculus I Math 1502: Calculus II EAS 1600: Intro-Environmental Sci ENGL 1101: English Composition I PUBP 3000: US Constitutional Issues MGT 2250: Management Statistics
Click on the Remaining Classes tab
Notice that all the classes whose status you changed to Completed are no longer visible
What classes should you take next semester? You can use the Remaining Classes illustration to determine what classes to take the next semester All it requires is a blank piece of paper
Start by looking at the Remaining Classes illustration
Place the piece of paper over the illustration
Now slide the paper downwards
Continue to slide the piece of paper downward until it no longer covers at least the number of classes you want to take
Highest classes have priority
If possible, this student should take HPS 1040: Health first
Then, they should try and take EAS 1601: Habitable Planet, ENGL 1102: English Composition II, and CS 1315 Intro to Media Computation
Finally, they should round out their schedule with ECON 2105: Prin of Macroeconomics, ECON 3110: Adv Microeconomics, MATH 2401: Calculus III, and MGT 2200: Information Technology
Now, click on the Core Area Check Sheet tab
Notice that all the classes that you changed the status to completed are listed on this sheet
The Core Area Check Sheet places the classes you have completed into the Core Areas as defined by the Board of Regents and Georgia Tech
The Core Area Check Sheet also keeps track of the credit hours that contribute to your degree according to your course plan
You will turn in a print out of this worksheet to your advisor with your CAPP report and completed Petition to Graduate before the departmental deadline when you are preparing to graduate (Oct 1 for Spring and Mar 1 for Fall and Summer)
