Welcome to Curriculum Night Student success increases when parents and teachers keep in close communication. Social Studies Department Contact Information: Address/Web Address Anne

What will be taught in Social Studies? Students received a copy of the GCPS AKS from their homeroom teacher at the beginning of the year. Students will receive a syllabus that outlines what is being covered at the beginning of each semester. Students will also receive a Study Guide for each Unit of Study. The Syllabus and Study Guides will serve as their tools to review for Interim Exams, Final Exams, and for the CRCT in May. To prepare/review for the CRCT, ALL students will periodically rotate throughout all 7 th grade SS classes. However, students who are contentious will not be allowed to participate.

Topics to be discussed this year Southwest Asia – aka The Middle East 1. Geography, 2. History and, 3. Governments & Economics Africa 1. Geography, 2. History and, 3. Governments & Economics South & East Asia 1. Geography, 2. History and, 3. Governments & Economics

MAKE-UP and/or LATE WORK If at all possible, please check the website when absent and do any work that can be done…this will reduce the stress of making up so much work once they return. If a student is absent the day an assignment is graded, it is their responsibility to turn it in for grading during HOMEROOM the day of their return. If absent the day of an assessment, be prepared to make it up the day of return. Students should come during homeroom the day following an absence to copy their assignment and pickup any handouts, etc. Late work is to be turned in during HOMEROOM… ALL WORK NEEDS TO BE KEPT ORGANIZED IN A SOCIAL STUDIES FOLDER WITH PAPER FASTENERS, ALONG WITH A COMPLETED TABLE OF CONTENTS.

Academic Recovery Plan for Retest  All assignments must be complete and turned in BEFORE requesting ARP form.  Student initiated.  Must be requested within 5 days.  Student must attend before school review session.  Retest grade will be recorded, even if it is lower.  NO retest during last 3 days of grading period.  NO retest for Interims.

How can I keep up with my child’s progress? PARENT PORTAL- Parent Portal allows you daily access to attendance, discipline and grade reports for your child. * Please keep in mind that updates to the portal are not immediate and require a turn-around time of 24 hours.

How are Social Studies grades weighted? Homework: 5% Class-work: 10% Quizzes/Small Projects: 25% Summative Assessments: 45% Interim: 5% Comprehensive Final: 10%

GCPS promotion criteria for 7 th Grade Seventh Grade Students (For Promotion to 8th Grade) Must achieve a passing score on each of the following: * CRCT Reading * CRCT Language Arts * CRCT Math *CRCT Science * CRCT Social Studies More Detailed Information Can Be Found on the Lanier Homepage:
