 The sport of volleyball celebrated its 100 th anniversary in Volleyball started on the beaches but in years past has moved from the sand to the floor of gymnasiums all across the globe.

 When you play the sport of volleyball you first need the proper gear. If you play in the sand you are going to just need sunglasses and sun screen, as well as a net with boundary lines. If you play indoor like the typical person you are going to need knee pads, jerseys, spandex, and gym shoes. The last thing that you need is an actual volleyball.

 You serve the ball when you are out of bounds. If you step inbounds when you are serving you will get a fault and the ball will go to the other team. This clip art shows decent form for serving. You want to throw the ball in the air about arms length and contact the ball when it is at its peak. If the ball is coming down when you contact it. The serve will not be as accurate.

 Blocking is all about timing. You have to analyze how each play spikes the ball. Also play close attention to there eyes for that will usually tell you where they are going to spike the ball. When you think you know where the ball is going to cross the net try to jump at the same time that they make contact with the ball. This will give you the best chance to block the ball and send it back to their side of the net.

 Bumping the ball is like passing in any other sport. When you bump the ball you are usually doing it after someone spiked it at you. If you are in proper position bumping the ball is a good technique used to slow down the ball so you can set it up for a set and spike. Proper technique would be bent knees, arms together, and eyes on the ball.

 Karch Kiraly – said to be the best volleyball player in history according to her stats. She plays sand volleyball.  Logan Tom- Second most victories and most championship wins in a gymnasium. She played for Stanford on there gym volleyball team.

 College level volleyball is getting more and more competitive as time goes on. The top teams in the game are Flordia University, Penn St University, Stanford University, and the national champions of 2011 California University.

 There are many ways to get involved in the sport of volleyball. If you are already out of high school and want to pick up the sport the best way is to go to a recreation area near you and see if they have drop in games. Drop in games are games that are either organized or not organized and they are always friendly match. So get out there and have fun. And don’t forget. BUMP SET SPIKE.
