If You Like It Then You Should Have Put a Ring On It Keeping the Committed Employees Committed

Managers spend a majority of their time attempting to motivate the unmotivated …which leaves substantially less time to attend to those employees who are already motivated and committed to doing good work

It is easy to fall into a pattern where we feel that we can let our ‘good’ employees self- maintain while we deal with our more problematic employees

Motivational Entropy

How do managers avoid motivational entropy among their best employees?

3 general mechanisms have been shown to maintain and enhance the motivation levels of already motivated employees

Personal attention/recognition and individualized messages of gratitude by the manager are important for maintaining motivation levels of committed employees #1

Acknowledgement of committed employees’ unique contribution, impact, and ‘worth’ by the manager is important for maintaining motivation levels #2

Advancing and developing committed employees by the manager is important for maintaining motivation levels #3
