Introduction to SAP

Objectives Navigate the user interface Display material tables Understand the relationship between organizational units Company, material storage location

Accessing SAP I assume that NetWeaver is installed on your computer First, you see a login screen allowing you to select a sap client Click Log On to log in to the selected client

The SAP Log in Screen

Accessing the SAP Client

The SAP User Interface There are familiar menus and icons Access of most functions are gained through the drill-down interface Drill-down items are used to access screens Most screens have Header data Overview data Detail data

SAP Icons They differ a bit from what you are used to

The Three Parts of SAP There are three parts to working with SAP Configuration – creating organizational units and assigning them to each other Execution – Running the application to create master and transactional data Customization – Changing the way SAP works using ABAP

SAP (Configuration) We use a tool called the IMG Transaction code SPRO

SAP Configuration (IMG) IMG hierarchical user interface

SAP Screens Header data Position overview Position details

Transaction Codes (Introduction) Every transaction you record is represented by a transaction code A transaction might be completed by filling out several screens There are literally thousands of transaction codes It’s often faster to use a transaction code instead of navigating a menu Both do the same thing

Enabling Transaction Codes

Favorites Using Favorites, you can create a custom folder hierarchy organized as you like

Sessions A session is little more than an instance of the SAP client that you see It’s possible to run different transactions in different sessions Click System / Create Session System / End Session There is a limit to the number of sessions you can create

How the Simulation is Set up You are using a configured SAP simulation called Global Bike There are others supported by SAP Each of you has a unique user id GBI-xxx where xxx is your user number This user number is “magical” and is used when searching for information Your user number is on the handout that I gave you. DON’T FORGET IT

GBI Business Processes Sell – Fulfillment Buy – Procurement Make – Production Track – Financial Accounting Track – Controlling People – Human Capital Management Store – Inventory and Warehouse Management Plan – Material Planning Maintain – Enterprise Asset Management Service – Customer Service

GBI Products Trading Goods These are goods that we buy and resell

GBI Products Raw materials These are materials used in the manufacturing process

GBI Products Semi-finished goods Think of these as intermediate assemblies made from raw materials

GBI Products Finished goods These are goods made from raw materials and semi-finished goods

GBI Procurement GBI buys products from vendors The following are the German vendors

GBI (Sales) GBI has customers in the US and Germany German customers

Common Processes (Sales) The sales process (order to cash) Uses Sales and Distribution (SD) Materials Management (MM) Financial Accounting (FI)

Common Processes (Sales)

Common Processes (Procurement) Procure-to-Cash Materials Management (MM) Financial Accounting (FI) Involves the procurement of goods for resale or manufacturing

Common Processes (Procurement)

Searching for Data Search screens all work similarly Tabs across the top of the dialog boxes allow you to search based on different criteria Drop-down boxes allow you to select from a list of valid values

Searching For Data (Material Stock Overview) Use Transaction Code MMBE to display a stock overview

Displaying Table Data Use SE11 to run the ABAP dictionary (schema) Use transaction code SE16 to display a table Use transaction code SE16N (new) for a more robust interface Table characteristics They are usually 4 characters long and are derived from German acronyms Field names work the same way

Selected Material Tables MARA contains material master MARC contains plant data WERKS is plant field MARD contains storage location data LGORT contains storage location field

Data Browser (Example) Look up material DXTR1000 from table MARA

Data Browser (Example) Table MARA display MSTNR material number
