o Overarching characteristic: prefer independent study, projects and self-instruction (Rogers, 2007) o Immense importance of true peers (Silverman, 2003) Interact on an equal plane around issues of common interest Find acceptance so that they develop successful social skills an positive self-concept Ameliorate feelings of isolation (Gross, 1994)

o Evolution of computers and their effect on education identified is a noteworthy trend for the future of gifted education (Cross, 1999) Prepare students for a global world (VanTassel-Baska, 2007) Navigate the vast accumulation of knowledge Plan, evaluate and problem solve with the infinite resources (Little, 2001)

o Gifted characteristic: complex conceptual connections Learning need: In-depth pursuit of interest, creation of innovative product, higher order thinking skills, grouping with like peers (VanTassel-Baska, 2006). o “Academically talented students…should use more than just recall, association, or comprehension.
