A 5 th Grade Level Fraction Game

 Groups of two  2 Different colored pencils per group  Scratch Paper  The Handout  Virtual Dice  Virtual Dice can be found here, gfl/custom/resources_f tp/client_ftp/ks1/math s/dice/ gfl/custom/resources_f tp/client_ftp/ks1/math s/dice/

 Each group will have two players, player 1 and player 2, they will take turns.  The dice will be rolled 4 times, the player who’s turn it is records each number and then makes two fractions from these 4 numbers.  They will then have thirty seconds to add the two fractions together, and find a place on the hand out to color in their new sum fraction.

PINK TAKES OVER THE CIRCLE  “Take over” as many circles as you can.  You must color over half a circle in order for it to be taken over.  Once there are no more moves to be made, the player with the most circles wins.

 The denominator must be larger than or equal to the numerator in both fractions.  If time runs out before a player is done, they may not finish or start coloring a circle.  If students are capable, they are allowed to split their fraction and color on more than one circle.  A circle must be colored over half by one player to be considered taken over.
