Presentation transcript:

 Often times meteorologists and climatologists to make some calculations in order to better understand trends in the weather. Here are three calculations they need to determine:  Mean temperature  Total yearly precipitation  Temperature range

 Mean Temperature It is really just the average temperature. It can be a mean daily temperature, a mean weekly, a mean monthly temperature or even a mean yearly temperature. To calculate the Mean temperature, just add up all the temperatures for that time period (daily, monthly, weekly or yearly) and divide by the number of temperatures you added.

 For example:  Calculate the mean weekly temperature below: SMTWTHFS ANSWER = 1+0+(-3)+(-2)+2+0+(-5) = (-7) -7 / 7 DAYS = -1

Total yearly precipitation  Total Yearly Precipitation is calculated by adding all the monthly precipitation totals together.

Temperature range  The temperature range is the difference between the highest temperature and the lowest temperature. To calculate this subtract the warmest temperature by the lowest temperature.
