Accountancy What is it? Accounting and Finance, the flexible business degree to take your lifelong ambitions forward, whether in business, finance or academia.  Why Accounting at Leeds Leeds is the leading UK centre for financial and professional services outside London (placements) Huge range of elective choices to complement your degree Impressive set of exemptions to progress career For a new graduate in Accounting and Finance to compete effectively in a crowded market they need be able to demonstrate two things. Firstly, the advanced technical and highly developed academic skills associated with a world class research-led institution. Secondly, and critically, they need to show that they have the high-level communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills that leading employers demand. To deliver the former, we draw on our extensive research expertise and work closely with employers and the main professional accounting bodies such as ACCA, ICAEW and CIMA to ensure that teaching on our programmes is fresh and relevant to current thinking in the workplace. What is Management? Base Disciplines e.g. Economics, Maths, Engineering Outputs e.g. Sustainability, Low Carbon Futures and Social Responsibility Business Functions e.g. HRM, Marketing, Business Operations Management is a dynamic topic and a field of study which is constantly developing. It draws on a wide range of base disciplines, including economics, engineering, mathematics, accounting, and law. It addresses business functions including strategy development, human resource management, marketing, business operations and information management. All of these disciplines and functions are constantly developing and our courses need to develop to keep pace with change in the business world and in the environment we live in. Perhaps an obvious example is the need for businesses to address the issues of sustainability, low carbon futures, and social responsibility. Don’t forget the full extent of combinations with Management i.e. Marketing / Economics and Management + JH.

These programmes are designed to prepare you for specialist roles in, for example, export management, international marketing, international economic policy and analysis, international trade, and international business finance.

Human Resource Management What is it? It is the effective management of the ‘people factor’ in organisations – our approach is to give students a strong academic grounding, and develop their critical thinking skills. Focuses in-depth on the human dimension to work organisations. There is less emphasis on the more quantitative subjects covered within the BSc Management but increased qualitative content that offers a more grounded approach to understanding people at work. The programme combines numerous subjects such as economics, politics, psychology and sociology, with a significant international focus.
