USG Admission Standards Board of Regents sets admission standards. USG colleges and may set higher admission standards than the System minimum requirements.

Science Requirements

FAQs If a Georgia private high school or non-Georgia public school only offers physical science in the 8 th grade, can a student use that credit to satisfy the RHSC? Question:

FAQs Yes. Students enrolled in Georgia private high schools and high schools in other states often complete physical science while in the 8 th grade. As a result, students from private high schools and public high schools in other states can count physical science courses taken in the 8 th grade as one of the 4 required science units. Answer:

High School GPA Students graduating from high school 2012 or later must have 2.00 HSGPA calculated on the grades in the required 17 units of the RHSC.

SAT/ACT Scores

Research, Regional and State Universities Students must have minimum SAT or ACT scores for admission to research, regional and state universities: SAT 430 CR And 400 Math ACT 17 English And 17 Math

State and Two-Year Colleges Require minimum test scores and Freshman Index Require placement testing

Students who test below the System minimum scores on the COMPASS exam in one or more areas of learning support are not eligible for admission: Reading – 62English – 32Math - 20 Placement Testing and Admissions Students who test into all three areas of learning support are not eligible for admission. HSGT-ELA results can be used to exempt learning support placement testing (minimum score of 235) – be sure you send a student’s test results on the transcript to avoid unnecessary LS testing and placement! Students who submit SAT/ACT test scores sufficient to exempt learning support are exempt from placement testing. SAT – 430 Critical Reading/400 Math ACT – 17 English/17 Math Exempting Placement Testing

Calculating the Freshman Index SAT FI = (500 x HSGPA) + SAT Verbal + SAT Math ACT FI = (500 x HSGPA) + (ACT Composite x 42) + 88

Lawful Presence October 2010, the Board of Regents approved two new policies which went into effect Fall 2011:

Policy A person who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible for admission to any University System institution which, for the two most recent academic years, did not admit all academically qualified applicants (except for cases in which applicants were rejected for non-academic reasons). The following institutions currently fall under 4.1.6: Georgia College and State University Georgia Health Sciences University Georgia Institute of Technology Georgia State University University of Georgia

Policy Each University System institution shall verify the lawful presence in the United States of every successfully admitted person applying for resident tuition status, as defined in Section 7.3 of this Policy Manual, and of every person admitted to an institution referenced in Section of this Policy Manual. Section 7.3Section Policy only impacts those students applying for in- state tuition.

Verifying Lawful Presence Institutions may verify lawful presence in a number of ways such as: Eligibility for Federal Student Aid SEVIS US birth certificate Georgia driver’s License issued after January 1, 2008 US passport Permanent Resident Card
