 All Secondary students are assigned to the same team and can see any advisor in 134 Erickson Hall ◦ To schedule an advising appointment:  Team Coordinators: ◦ Trudy Sykes – 346 Erickson Hall  English, Social Studies, Art, Music, Agriscience ◦ Kelly Hodges – 353 Erickson Hall  Math, World Languages, all Sciences

Part 1 – Completion of Major  Your major advisor is your primary advisor for major courses, graduation requirements, etc.  Must maintain a 2.5 overall GPA in your major area (usually differs from what your major college requires)

Part 2 – Completion of Teaching Minor  See COE website for listing of teaching minor courses and departmental contact names  HST teaching minors must be approved by advisor in that department. New version pending, see advisor.  TESOL teaching minor requires the completion of the TESOL Minor Agreement Form  Non-conforming teaching minors must be approved by that department, with approval by form, or posted in ESAF  Must maintain a 2.5 overall GPA in teaching minor area  No course credits counted in a teaching minor can be double counted toward the credit requirement of the teaching major, or vise versa 5

 Students who will intern FS14 or later will likely be held to additional requirements to meet MDE standards. ◦ For students with majors in:  History Education  IDS: Social Science Education  James Madison – Social Science ◦ For students with minors in:  History  Economics*  Political Science*  Geography* 6 * These must be paired with IDS:SSE, JM or HST Ed majors for interns FS14 or later.

 If you would like a morning class, pick section 101  If you would like an afternoon class, pick section 102 Make sure to sign up for a section with an advisor and the Student Affairs Office will give you an override. Remember to enroll yourself for the specific section that you requested. 8

1212 Students must submit a Conviction Disclosure Form (CDF) Prior to admission to the TE program Prior to internship placement Prior to initial certification After admission students are obligated to report subsequent convictions to COE Certification Officer within 3 business days and provide court documents May be denied admission, field placement or recommendation for certification because of a conviction for a misdemeanor or felony Failure to report a conviction or falsification could result in dismissal from the TE program ICHAT Search (Internet Criminal History Access Tool) Internet search for criminal history Required for TE 302, 407 and 408 Students, interns and teacher certification candidates are obligated to report convictions to the Certification Officer. Failure to disclose conviction history is falsification! A conviction does not disappear from your record!

 Effective immediately, all students seeking initial teacher certification must prove that they are certified in: ◦ Adult CPR ◦ Child CPR ◦ First Aid  MDE - Approved Providers of Courses for First Aid and CPR ◦  First Aid certification is valid for 3 years  CPR certification is valid for 1 year  Must be current at time of certification. Earliest to take them is late August before internship begins.

 Reply forms are due Friday, March 18  Count your credits! You will need 120 total to graduate (123 if you took MTH1825 at MSU)  Check News & Announcements on the COE website for updates  Chicago Internship requires separate application process. Must be in good standing with the College of Education.  If you need to change your major based on admission, do it ASAP!  For those the History major, or minors in PLS, GEO, HST or EC, or a science teaching area, check with a COE advisor about adding additional endorsements!
