3 rd Grade

The Sun is a star. The Sun is the center of the solar system.

 A planet is a large body of rock or gas that orbits the sky.  The Solar System has nine planets.  Earth is one of the nine planets.

 The Inner planets are closest to the sun. -Mercury -Venus -Earth -Mars

 Earth is different from the other planets it has a watery surface.  Earth is the only planet with a lot of oxygen in the atmosphere.  Earth has plant and animal life.

 The outer planets are colder than the inner planets because they are farthest away from the sun. -Jupiter -Saturn -Uranus -Neptune -Pluto

 Asteroids are chunks of rock or metal that orbit the sun.  Comets are large balls of ice and dust that orbit the sun.
