Professional formation at the Faculty of Rural Management, The University of Sydney A D McKenzie

A university program that requires students to manage their own capability development... The professional I want to be

Many rural industries have pre- defined competency sets for various rural occupations. To be effective on the job, our graduates will need the knowledge, skills and attitudes identified in these job profiles...

Industry - prescribed set of competencies required for the job Competency based training forms the basis of vocational training in Australia. The Faculty’s capability development program likewise embeds training in appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes, equipping students for future effectiveness on the job

The capability development program takes an even wider, lifelong view of professional formation, adding to technical competency the dimensions of self efficacy and personal values...

The undergraduate curriculum of the Faculty of Rural Management uses a range of strategies to foster whole person development. A wider, more critical, experiential analysis of professional formation

How then do vocational training and capability development come together in our curriculum?

The proposed multi-sector campus, The Centre for Regional Education in Orange, will give joint partners, the Faculty and the Western Institute of TAFE, the chance to design a range of programs to suit the many needs of the communities it serves.

The challenge for both organisations will be to ask how they can combine their respective talent pools and resources to genuinely re-invigorate the region they serve.
