S ERVICE E VOLUTION Wire less Telephone technologies  Pre-Cellular  Predecessor  Services  Operators

C ONTD.. Wireless Telephone technologies  First Generation  Analog signals, AMPS  FDM,Separate radio frequencies  NMT,Hicap,CDPD

C ONTD.. Wireless Telephone technologies  Second Generation  GSM standard  Digital Encryption  Data Services  Multiplexing, Codecs  CDMA, TDMA  Iden,PDC,CSD  2.5G,2.75G

C ONTD.. Wireless Telephone technologies  Third Generation  ITU-2000 Standard  EVDO  Frequency Migration  WCDMA,CDMA-2000  WiMax,DECT

A BOUT 4 G Introducing 4G Applications  High usability  Extensive Support for Multimedia services  Personalization  Integrated Services

T ECHNOLOGIES IN 4G OFDMA Software Defined Radio MIMO Hand over and Mobility Inter layer optimization

Challenges in 4G Technology Mobile Station  Should create multi-mode user terminals.  Able to discover various wireless networks.  Increase in wireless technologies complicates their selection. Proposed solutions: Software Radio Approach, User/System initiated Automatic Downloads of Software modules, Selecting according to best fit of User-QoS requirements, network resources, and preferences.

Contd.. System  Build terminal mobility (locate/update).  Integrate Non-IP and IP based systems, provide QoS to end-end services.  Security Issue for heterogeneous wireless networks.  Improvement in fault tolerance. Proposed solutions: Signaling schemes, QoS schemes, Security schemes and fault tolerant architectures.

Contd.. Services  Managing and billing customer’s Accounting information from multiple service providers.  Provide consistent personal mobility without modifying existing servers. Proposed solutions: Introducing various billing and accounting frameworks, personal mobility frameworks.

Suggestions In order to introduce 4G into the market, we need to start use of low cost effective 4G chips in the consumer the electronics. Integrating the existing technologies into a single stream is an important priority. Backward compatibility should made be possible. 2G 3G 4G Building the system with less cost by using existing frequencies for 3G instead of buying new frequencies.
