Background Globalization is an opportunity for virtually any organization Penn Compact prioritizes global engagement International activities are embedded more and more in Penn’s academic, research and service functions Penn’s significant, long-term program in Botswana and new program in Abu Dhabi 2

Recent Developments on Centralized International Supports Fall International Support Coordinating Group Convened by Executive Vice President and Provost Composition: Office of EVP, Office of Provost, OACP, OIP, OGC, Risk Management, Purchasing, Human Resources, ISC, Cash Flow, Tax, Travel Services, Research Services, ORA, Public Safety Charge: (i) ensure that our faculty, students, and administrators are provided with rigorous, timely and user-friendly advice and guidance to support our academic and research mission internationally (ii) ensure that the University’s exposure to risks internationally are identified, contained and/or minimized. Priority initiative - Develop web-based resources for international programs and activities. Fall OIP creates risk management position to support schools and centers in their increasing international activities 3

Global Resources Tab: The Starting Point Purpose: One-stop shop for operational resources for Penn’s international work Approach: Prominence of new central and coordinated resources (middle column) While providing the context of Penn’s international priorities and programs (left column) And while maintaining the system of individual offices keeping ownership of their functions in the domestic and international realm (right column) 5

Global Activities Registry Purpose: Create an online tool to support Penn community members traveling abroad and to gather data about levels of global engagement Expedite response to natural disasters and other crisis situations. Improve coordination between program staff and administrative centers Continue developing rich knowledge base of Penn’s international presence Features: Anyone can enter a trip; program directors can enter group travel on behalf of the group Feeds ISOS system, enabling ISOS to provide emergency evacuation, medical support, and region-specific information services Facilitates collaboration among faculty and staff in same regions Enables University and individual Schools to know more about international reach of their faculty and staff 6
