END OF GRADE TEST!! In 8 th grade, Science is a state tested subject. In order to be promoted to high school, students must: pass the EOG in Math, Reading, & Science pass their 4 core subjects, Health/PE, and one elective for the year

5-Day Vocabulary Cycle Day 1 = Define 15 vocab words in spiral index card notebook Day 2 = Creative Day- sketches to depict meaning of words, OR Google images Day 3 = 5-7 Relationship sentences using 2-3 words per sentence Day 4 = STUDY for quiz & create practice quiz for classmate to complete Day 5 = Take QUIZ in class

Classroom Expectations Enter class & copy assignment from board into agenda Place homework & agenda out on corner of desk to be checked (10% grades unless otherwise specified, each assignment counts separately) Begin warm-up (in Interactive Notebook) Take all notes that teacher writes Participate productively in whole class discussions & collaborative groups Keep Interactive Notebook up to date – all pages labeled appropriately with correct classwork on each Notebook will count for 45% grade at end of each quarter!!

Late Work Late homework receives a 0 initially To turn in late work that has been completed, student will show me during HW check time at the beginning of next class OR put work in “IN” tray at back of classroom It will be entered into NCWise as a 60 & placed back in “OUT” tray to be picked up Late work will “snowball”, so complete assignments nightly! There will ALWAYS be science homework, many times with multiple parts!!

Absences If a student is absent, please check my website to see posted assignments and complete anything that can be done from home. Student should get worksheets/notes sheets upon return. There will be a running list of what belongs on each page of the Interactive Notebook kept in classroom. Science only meets every other day & there is a great deal of content to cover, so good attendance is key!

What you can do to help your child be successful… Check your child’s agenda nightly and make them physically show you the completed homework Check wiki site for info on nightly homework assignments & upcoming tests/quizzes Utilize Parent Assist & let your child view their assignments/grades as well Contact Ms. Dedrick via with any questions on assignments, grades, child’s progress, etc.
