Learning Objectives Identify the psychosocial health’s introduction. Define wellness. List seven basic components of wellness. Explain each component . Discuss factors influencing psychosocial health. List the components of subjective well-being. Explain factors influencing on psychosocial health. Enumerate methods of helping in case of self-care deficit.

Introduction The psychosocial assessment is focused more on the significance and functioning of the patient in relationship to themselves, others and their environment. The assessment should ascertain how quality of life is defined and experienced by the patient. Ideally it should identify their goals, barriers to achieving those goals and strengths available to overcome and/or adapt in the presence of constant change.

Definition of health and wellness: health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being; and not merely the absence of disease. Wellness is optimal health and well-being emotional, mental, spiritual, interpersonal/social, and environmental well-being.

Components of Wellness Physical: The ability to carry out daily tasks, ,achieve fitness, maintain adequate nutrition and proper body fat, avoid abusing drugs and alcohol or using tobacco products, and generally practice positive lifestyle habits. Social: The ability to interact successfully with people and within the environment.

Components of Wellness Emotional: The ability manage stress and to express emotions appropriately. Also Emotional wellness: involves the ability to recognize, accept, and express feelings and to accept one’s limitations.

Components of Wellness Intellectual: the ability to learn and use information effectively for personal, family and career development. Intellectual wellness: involves striving for continued growth and learning to deal with new challenges effectively.

Components of Wellness Occupational: the ability to achieve a balance between work and leisure time. A person’s beliefs about education, employment, and home influence personal satisfaction and relationships with others. Environmental: the ability to promote health measures that improve the standard of living and quality of life in the community. This includes influences such as food, water, and air.

Components of Wellness Spiritual: the belief in some force (nature, science, religion, or a higher power) that serves to unite human beings and provide meaning and purpose to life. It includes a person’s own morals, values, and ethics.

Causes of the spiritual problems: 1- Illness ( a cut or chronic). 2- Near death experience. 3-Religious problems. 4-Intensification of adherence to beliefs. 5-Loss of faith.

Spirituality may be achieved when the following needs are met: • The need for having • The need for relating • The need for being • The need for transcendence, or the sense of well-being that is experienced when a person finds purpose and meaning in life

Enhancing Psychosocial Health Developing and Maintaining Self-Esteem and Self-Efficacy Finding a support group Complete required tasks Form realistic expectations Make time for his or her self Examine problems and seek help Maintain physical health

Self Care Self-care: refers to those activities an individual performs independently throughout life to promote and maintain personal well being.

Self Care Requisites Health deviation Developmental Universal Result from illness, injury, or disease or treatment Result from maturation or are associated with conditions or events Including basic human needs

Methods of Helping in Case of Self-Care Deficit Five methods of helping in case of self-care deficit: 1- Acting or doing for. 2- Guiding. 3- Teaching. 4- Supporting. 5- Providing an environment that promotes the individual’s abilities to meet current and future demands.
