What is Second Life? A Virtual World created by Linden Lab and launched on June 23, A Virtual World? -Who would you be if you could be anyone? - Where would you live?

Second Life Terminology The Viewer- A Free Client Program that enables its’ users to interact with each other through avatars. Residents- Second Life Users Avatar- The Second Life Virtual Representation of a user. Alt - Short for "alternate," this term refers to the practice of owning more than one Second Life account, which allows a person to have more than one name and presence in Second Life (even at the same time, if they own more than one computer)

Terminology Cont’d Community Standards -The basic standard of behavior expected of Residents in Second Life. Griefer - A Second Life resident who harasses other residents. Related terms include "griefing" (the act of such harassment) and "to grief" (as, "Joe's Bar was griefed the other day"). Inworld -Occurring in or relating directly to the Second Life world; as, "I'll meet you inworld at five."

Terminology Cont’d Linden -A member of the Second Life company staff, whose avatars all have the surname "Linden." -A unit of Second Life currency, used for inworld transactions. Sim - Short for "simulation," this term refers to any given simulated environment within Second Life. It is not exactly equivalent to land, because it tends to incorporate the landscape, buildings, theme, and any applicable covenants of a particular section of Second Life.

Who Would You Be? In Second Life you can become anyone you wish to be. You can live the life of a Doctor or Professor or even a Rock Star. Who have you always wished you could be?

Where Would You Live? You could create your own home. You could choose existing places such as: Costa Rica, Paris, Mystery Island, and most places on your average map. Only with Second Life Additions as well. A beach house on a secluded beach perhaps?

Why Play? Second Life is a great escape from the everyday norm. Allows people to be creative about their appearance and personality with out fear of repercussions. A great way to meet people and travel with no cost.

Educational Possibilities

Why Not Play? Any online game such as Second Life takes away from real life. One Spends hours on a computer instead of going out and actually living. It teaches duplicity of person.

The Choice is Yours Second Life has a variety of uses that range from Educational to Entertainment. Second Life’s popularity is ever rising. The negative aspect of Second Life can be avoided by remembering a simple rule: all things in moderation.
