Towards a ‘Virtual Placement’ Using eportfolio to enhance employability for Early Childhood Studies students Ben Andrews & Maggie Leese

CWDC (2005) state that practitioners need..... “a set of common values that promote equality, respect diversity and challenge stereotypes, helping to improve the life chances of all children and young people”

The Centre for Excellence in Enquiry-Based Learning suggest that..... “It is essential that our students are educated for knowledge creation, lifelong learning and leadership. They will take on leading roles in their future working environments: directing change, asking important questions, solving problems and developing new knowledge.”

Comrie (2007) states that... “the idea is that if you make the delivered material enticing enough the learners will learn from it.” Knight & Yorke (2003) state that... “teaching that enhances employability is associated with systemic thinking about programmes and learning environments.”

A ‘Virtual’ Placement (Ben) Ethics Knowledge Values

‘I went for an interview in a Children’s Centre and I knew all the answers...it was great’. (Pat) ‘Enjoyed it but too much to do for the assessment’. (Jenny) ‘It didn’t feel like studying, an interesting project that you can keep adding to’. (Paul)
