Characterization of Hα Filbril Structure YUAN Space Weather Research Lab Oct. 26 th, 2010

Abstract Introduction Method Results Conclusion

Introduction (1) Motivation – Compare the chromospheric magnetic fields (found out using NLFF extrapolation) with Hα Filbril Structure to measure the accuracy of NLFF extrapolation method

Introduction (2) The filament structure seen in the extrapolated chromoshpere (a) and in Hα observation (b). Courtesy of Ju Jing et al., (2010).

Method (1) Modeling of Hα Filbril Structure

Method (2) Modeling of Hα Filbril Structure

Conclusion An Hα Filbril Structure characterization method is put forward using image gradient information. The orientation identified on the boundary of filbril structure is more accurate than other region.
