How to make Great Powerpoints Nic Bongers

Part 1: Poor Content No first slide No “hook” Too much information Paragraphs and sentences Irrelevant clipart Too many slides (more than 20 per 60 min.) End slide

Part 1: Poor Content Example Everything from my cue cards is just copied/pasted onto the sheet. As you can see, it takes up quite a lot of the viewable area. Since this is a slide presentation, you don’t need every word you are saying out loud ON the slide…. Just the main points.

Part 1: Content Good Content First slide—title and name Bulleted keywords Charts Relevant images Few slides (less than 20/hr.) No end or thank you slide

Part 2: Poor Composition Clutter No balance No arrangement

Part 2: Composition Good Composition Less is more Visual balance Breathing room Simplicity Arrangement

Part 3: Style Poor Style Background inconsistency Poor colors/contrast Font choice and size Slide transitions

Part 3: Style Good Style Simple Background Sans Serif font (Arial, Helvetica) Dark and light color contrast Consistent slide transitions

Summary Points to keep in mind Title Slide Bulleted keywords and images Dark and light contrast Arial font
