Confucius Confucius (Kongfuzi) 551 BC BC the end of the Spring and Autumn Period in Chinese history the dominant Chinese philosopher both morally and politically

Confucianism, major system of thought in China, developed from the teachings of Confucius and his disciples, and concerned with the principles of good conduct, practical wisdom, and proper social relationships. Confucianism has influenced the Chinese attitude toward life, set the patterns of living and standards of social value, and provided the background for Chinese political theories and institutions.

Tao Xingzhi ( 陶行知 )

Tao Xingzhi Born on October 18 in 1891 in Anhui Province, he went to study in the US after graduating from Jinling University in 1914, and went back to China in Tao believed that education is an active, constructive process in real-life experiences rather than one of telling and being told.

Tao looked at “society as school”; instead of “education as life”, he saw “life as education”; and, instead of “learning by doing”. He changed his name twice to reflect his beliefs. From Tao Wen Tsing, the name his parents gave to reflect their hopes for him, he became Tao Zhixing, which means “knowing then doing”. Finally, he became Tao Xingzhi, which means “doing then knowing”, because he believed that one should do first, then one will know.

Anton Makarenko

Makarenko, Anton Semyonovich, 1888–1939, Russian educator. In the 1920s, Makarenko organized the Gorky Colony, a home for children left homeless by the Russian Revolution of Oct., In 1931, he became head of Dzerzhinsky Commune, an institution for juvenile offenders. A supporter of Stalin, his theories emphasized the importance of physical labor, discipline, and the collective in education.

wish 后跟的宾语从句中用虚拟语气,具 体用法如下: 1) 表示与现在事实相反的愿望,谓语动词用 过去时态。如: I wish I were a bird. 2) 表示与过去事实相反的愿望,谓语动词用 过去完成式。如: I wish I hadn’t made such a mistake. 3) 表示与将来情况相反或将来难以实现的愿 望,谓语动词用 should/would+ 动词原形。 如: We wish our parents wouldn’t punish us.

在下列动词后面的宾语从句中: 表示建议: suggest, advise, propose, recommend ;要求: demand, request, require, insist ;命令: order, command 等 ; 动词用 should + do 构成, should 可以省略。 虚拟语气用在其它动 词后的宾语从句中

We suggested that Tom have a rest. He insisted that I (should) be present. The king ordered that the prisoners be killed the next day. They requested that we (should) send them to work there.

注意: insist 表示 “ 坚决要求 ” 时,用虚 拟形式,即 should + do; 表示 “ 坚称, 坚持说 ” 时,用陈述语气,表示事实。 suggest 表示 “ 建议 ” 时,用虚拟形式; 表示 “ 表明、暗示 ” 时,用陈述语气。

试比较: The teacher suggested that we (should) clean the blackboard after class. The smile on his face suggested that he was happy for passing the exam. He insisted that all of us (should) be there on time by any means. He insisted that he was right.

在句型 “It is important (necessary, strange, natural) that... ” 中, that 后面 的从句中的谓语动词用: should + 动词 原形, should 可以省略。如: 1. It’s necessary that we should have a walk now. 2. It is important that we (should) master a foreign language. 虚拟语气用在主语从句中

3. It is strange that she refuse to come to the party. 4. It’s necessary that we should study hard. 5. It’s natural that she should do so. It’s important that we should take good care of the patient.

表示说话人愿望 (wish/desire) 、建议 (suggestion/advice) 、要求 (requirement /demand) 、命令 (order, command) 等的 名词,其后的表语 / 同位语从句的谓语 动词用 (should) + do. 虚拟语气用在同位语 / 表语从句中

1. My idea is that we (should) think it over before accepting it. 2. My suggestion that we (should) have a meeting has been accepted by others. 3. We all agree to that suggestion that the meeting (should) be put off.

4. The suggestion that students (should) learn English is worth considering. 5. Do you know the order that you (should) keep silent?

We suggest that you (should) go there by bus. = Our suggestion is that you (should) go there by bus. = It is our suggestion that you (should) go there by bus. = It is suggested that you (should) go there by bus.

在 as if 从句中,常用虚拟形式,即表示 与现在事实相反,用过去式;与过去事 实相反用过去完成式 (had done). 1) as if /as though 连接表语从句 He talks as if he knew where she was. He looked as if he hadn’t slept for two days. 虚拟语气用在 as if 从句中

2) as if /as though 连接状语从句 She looked after the boy as if he were her own son. He speaks to us as if he had been there.

1. if only 意为:若是 …… 那该多好啊 ; 真希望 …… ; 只要, 只要 …… 就好 表示现在的情况,应用过去式 ; 如果 是过去的情况,应用过去完成时态 。 如: If only I had arrived in time! If only she didn’t drive so fast. 虚拟语气的其它用法

2. It’s (high/right) time that … that 从句要用虚拟语气:谓语用过去时 或 should + do 。如: It’s time that you left here.

3. would (had) rather 后跟的从句中 当从句表示现在或将来的时间时,谓 语动词要用一般过去时;表示过去时 间时,谓语动词要用过去完成时。 I would rather he came tomorrow than today. I would rather he had not told me about that.

4. 一些介词短语, 如 :but for ( 要不是 ), without, otherwise ( 否则 ), in that case ( 如果是那样的话 ), 表示含蓄的条件时, 主句要用虚拟语气。如: Without your help, we would not have made such rapid progress.
