Dispersion

This is the last bit of waves we’ll see ●Describe how light can be broken into a spectrum. ●Define the term monochromatic. ●Remember the seven colours of the spectrum in order. (Probably not that essential, but you will need to remember which has the shortest wavelength and which has the longest) Rich tried to find a comic book hero/villain that used dispersion. This is all he could find! Seriously, this is a DC comic book villain! Dispersion

When you place a prism through a beam of white light, the different wavelengths (and therefore colours) refract at different angles. Causing them to disperse

Remembering the colours of the spectrum You probably for the IGCSE won’t need to remember the order of the colours. But you will need to remember that red light has the longest wavelength. And Violet light has the shortest wavelength.

Remembering the colours of the spectrum Red at the top of the prism. Violet at the bottom!

The visible spectrum is in the middle of the electromagnetic spectrum

How can Rainbow Raider help?

Red Orange Yellow Green. Blue Indigo Violet O L O His name spells the order!

Activity Make the Rainbow Raider look more awesome! ●First complete the worksheet Rich is handing out ●Use the cut out model of Rainbow Raider, to make a Ray Box. You will need to fight a light bulb inside the cut out model. ●Use the ray box to explain the principle of dispersion. You will need a prism. ●Points will be awarded for making the Rainbow Raider look as menacing as possible
