We will know we are successful if we can answer these questions: What are Christian morals and values? Does the media help support Christian morals and values? How are Christianity and Christians shown in the media? How are important Christian figures shown in the press? Does the media promote Christianity? PLTS Reflective Learner:I can explain my learning

Philosophy and Ethics Unit 12: Media Revision Christianity in the media

Philosophy and Ethics Unit 12: Media Revision Christianity in our society Christmas Easter

Philosophy and Ethics Unit 12: Media Revision At Christmas and Easter, the media focuses on Jesus and there are many documentaries and articles. Shows Jesus as a uniquely positive, praiseworthy figure.

Philosophy and Ethics Unit 12: Media Revision Watch this clip ~ think about whether or not a Christian would find it amusing or offensive. Can you think of any reasons why a Christian might approve of this type of discussion on a comedy programme?

Philosophy and Ethics Unit 12: Media Revision Films Christians might respond in different ways. I was offended. In the film God gave his powers to a human to teach him a lesson, and this is something I believe God would never do. I think films that disrespect God are wrong. I thought it was ok. Of course I don’t believe that everything God said and did in the film matches what I believe about God. However I think it was great to have a film that makes people think about God and prayer.

Philosophy and Ethics Unit 12: Media Revision Over to you What do you think? Discuss these questions… Is it ok to laugh at religion? What might a religious person say about using important religious figures as forms of comedy entertainment? Would other religions allow their leaders to be mocked in such a way?
