James 1:19-25 “This you know, my beloved brethren. But let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.”

“ But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.”

“ But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man shall be blessed in what he does.”

II. Faith Hears the Word & Does the Word “Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.” (1:21) A. Faith Receives the Word (1:21) 1) Receives the Word in Humility (Putting aside all filthiness) 2) Receives the Word Implanted (All that Remains of Wickedness) 3) Receives the Word which is Able to Save your Soul

B. Faith Does the Word (1:22-25) Hearers Only? “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.” (1:22) Mirror Analogy “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.” (1:23-24)

III. Faith Produces Effectual Doers “But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man shall be blessed in what he does.” (1:25) Four Practices of the Blessed Man: 1) He looks intently at the law 2) He abides by the law 3) He is not a forgetful hearer of the law 4) He is an effectual doer of the law
