DIFFERENT TYPES OF PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS Ordinary Combustibles Fires in paper, wood, drapes and upholstery require a water type extinguisher labeled “A” A

Flammable Liquids Fires in fuel oil, gasoline, paint, grease in a frying pan, solvents and other flammable liquids require an extinguisher labeled “B”. B

Electrical Equipment Fires started in wiring, overheated fuse boxes, conductors, and other electrical sources require an extinguisher. C

D Metals Certain metals such as magnesium and sodium require special dry powder extinguishants labeled “D”.

THIS IS HOW MOST FIRE EXTINGUISHERS WORK PULL Pull the pin. Some units require the releasing of a lock latch, pressing a puncture lever, inversion or other motion.

AIM Aim the extinguisher nozzle (horn, or hose) at the base of the fire.

SQUEEZE SQUEEZE OR PRESS THE HANDLE.

SWEEP Sweep from side to side at the base of the fire. Watch for reflash. Discharge the contents of the extinguisher.
