LHC 14 & 15 April :22: Ramp to 6.5 TeV lost due to MUFO, resulting in quench 10:30: Access during cryo recovery 16:00: Pre-cycle 17:05: RB.A78 short towards end of pre-cycle: access EPC 20:45: Cycling 22:00: Injection of beam. Beam dump system MKD waveform and abort gap keeper (AGK) set-up –23:45: QPS not OK for RB.A34, RQD/RQF.A34. Very likely communication problem with gateway 06:00: Pilots at 6.5 TeV 07:19: Dump again on BLM 15.R8 08:00: QPS – gateway problem is back, to be sorted out 15/04/2015LHC Morning meeting – MG & JU1

Third Multiple B15R8, B2 15/04/2015LHC Morning meeting – MG & JU2 IP8 Q14Q15 Highest loss Quench After about 15 minutes at flat top, with 1 pilot per beam < 1e10 p+.

UFO Buster working again 15/04/2015LHC Morning meeting – MG & JU3 Also some B1 at 5R4…..

Actions taken Reduce BLM dump thresholds of 4 adjacent BLMs by factor of 2.2 –Dump the beam before the magnet quenches Installed two mobile BLMs on magnet C UFO buster is now working Post Mortem on orbit up again Contact with vacuum group; possibility of X-Ray of the interconnect 15/04/2015LHC Morning meeting – MG & JU4

Access done Vacuum BPM (fixed 9, another 9 to go, access needed, plus FESA restart) –Important for reference orbit we want to establish soon BLM (additional installation) BSRT Beam Presence flag: OK now Cryo IP7 door check Wire scanner AC dipole 15/04/2015LHC Morning meeting – MG & JU5

RB.A78 short Performed similar intervention also on RQD.A78 circuit Thanks to Mirko Pojer (OP), Consuelo Goncalves and Ivan Moya (EN/EL, they executed the work), Olivier Fournier and Charles Genton (TE/EPC, condemnation) To be followed up during TS1 15/04/2015LHC Morning meeting – MG & JU6 BeforeAfter

Beam Dump and timing MKD waveform measurement –BTV Sign change since last time… Abort Gap Keeper measurements –Need access to dial in the new delays on the beam dump 15/04/2015LHC Morning meeting – MG & JU7 ABT team

O-night One Ramp, MUFO on same 6.5 TeV –Only one Mega UFO Laurette keeps smiling (dump 19 pilots at injection) 15/04/2015LHC Morning meeting – MG & JU8

Next With beam –MUFO research –Injection kicker MKI waveform IP8 –ADT and K-modulation other beam –RF blow-up in ramp (tbc) –Later: reference orbit at injection Without beam –ATLAS urgent access Thursday, 4 hours 15/04/2015LHC Morning meeting – MG & JU9
