Guide to a successful PowerPoint design – simple is best Use the template wisely, make design amends that help your communication, do not alter the core design of the slide. Use only one key message per slide. If you have more than one message, use more slides. Some argue the target number of words on a slide should be 6. Limit the amount of text on each slide, and include copy in your notes. Maintain a consistent design throughout - colours, fonts, graphics and images.

How does the OA model operate? BMJ Open Access Programme BMJ launched two new Institutional Open Access Products - BMJ Open Access Membership - BMJ Open Access Account Allows institutions to remove some or all of the financial cost involved when their authors publish open access with BMJ Increasing mandates and drive for OA Similar agreements run with OA publishers and publishers with OA options i.e. BioMed Central, PLOS, Wiley, Royal Society...

Option 1: BMJ Open Access Membership BMJ Open Access Membership involves the payment of a flat annual fee to secure a discount on an unlimited number of APCs when linked authors publish in any BMJ journal. The benefits of a BMJ Open Access Membership are as follows: 25% discount on APC Flexible and cost-effective flat rate annual fee An affordable and scalable way to support researchers Discount applied based on corresponding authors affiliation to institution Bi-annual statements Pricing based on previous years publications

Option 2: BMJ Open Access Account Enables institutions to cover the whole cost of publishing for their authors when publishing across BMJ journal portfolio Institutions pays upfront for accepted articles 15% discount on article-processing charge (APC) Deposit is based on OA publications/submissions in previous year Authors do not have to pay anything directly for publishing in BMJ journals Without any cost-barriers authors are encouraged to choose open access when publishing their research There is no joining fee - all monies are used towards the cost of open access publications, and the credit in the fund is completely owned by the institution Credit is carried over until it is used up Quarterly statements
