Oregon Recent History College & Career The Oregon Legislature (2011) passed legislation that 1.By 2025: – 40% of Oregonians should have a BS or higher – 40% should have an AA or vocational certificate – 20% should have a high school diploma 2.Created the Oregon Education Investment Board (OEIB) and charged the Board with overseeing an effort to build a unified system for investing in and delivering public education from birth to college & career.

White House Convening San Diego State Oregon sent a team of 25 to SDSU including school counselor educators, the President & President-Elect of the Oregon School Counselor Association, Gear Up, ASPIRE, Oregon College Access Networks, Oregon Department of Education CCR specialist, Oregon Career Information System, Education Northwest, Oregon Community College Association, and the Ford Family Foundation.

School Counselors Invited to Table Prior to White House Convening at SDSU school counselors were not a part of the conversation. School counselors are now being invited to Oregon Education Investment Board meetings. Oregon Department of Education starting in Feb. will provide PD strands for school counselors in their ongoing PD training for teachers & administrators. Committees formed by the Oregon Department of Education will include school counselors.

College & Career Communication Use of DropBox to share materials with the 25 Oregon College and Career Readiness Leaders who attended SDSU. Use of Zoom to hold online meetings for school counselor educators, Oregon CCR Thought Leader Team, and soon to update school counselors on what is happening at the State & National levels. Use of Oregon School Counselor Association Advocacy website/blog to communicate with legislators, chambers of commerce, newspapers, and school counselors. Stories about SDSU event: – Enhancing School Counseling to Support Student Success support-student-success – Oregon College Access Network & the Oregon Community College Association newsletters had stories about SDSU.

Partnerships Lewis and Clark school counseling program partnering with the Hillsboro SD to provide college and career readiness PD & to place interns in that district. Interns - CCR concentration. Oregon State University Cascades school counseling program is continuing with ongoing PD work with central Oregon school counselors. Oregon State University Corvallis school counseling program is establishing agreements with two districts to place interns and to provide CCR PD to current staff. Oregon College Access Network & OEIB Partnership to develop statewide Directory of College Access & Career Dr. Michelle Jensen (OSCA President) developed curriculum for 5 th -8 th graders in Eastern Promise.

Future CCR Focus: Education Plan & Profile Education Northwest prepared a research report on Promising Practices in the use of the Personalized Learning Planning Process in middle and high school & presented at OEIB meeting. Oregon has legislation instructing schools to use the Education Plan and Profile: School districts shall develop a process that provides each student the opportunity to develop an education plan and build an education profile in grades 7 through 12 with adult guidance. The plan and profile shall be reviewed and updated periodically (at least annually) and be supported by a Comprehensive Guidance Program as defined in OAR Advocacy focused on hiring more school counselors to accomplish this goal.
