Mineral Resource is defined as a occurrence of natural, solid, inorganic or fossilized organic material in or on the Earth’s crust in such form and quantity and of such a grade or quality that it has reasonable prospects for economic extraction. Mineral Resource

National Mineral Scenario India produces as many as 87 minerals, which includes 4 fuel, 10 metallic, 47 non-metallic, 3 atomic and 23 minor minerals. India possesses a large variety of mineral-ores in fairly huge quantities. India is rich in coal, manganese, iron, chromites and mica. It is deficient in the gold, silver, nickel etc.

Distribution of Mineral Resources in India

Iron Iron : Orissa, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Goa.

Copper Copper : Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim.

Coal Coal : Bihar-Bengal- Jharkhand coal belt, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh.

Zinc & Lead Lead and Zinc: Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Gujarat, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim.

Mineral Resource In JHARKHAND

1.IRON ORE  The total reserve of hametite in Jharkhand region is over 3000 million tones with 28 mines.  Out of this total reserve 2000 mollion tones occures in chiria(singbhum district) is one of the largest single deposite of the world.  The average quality of Chiria deposite is % Fe.

2.COAL The total mines of coal in Jharkhand is 183 which over Jharia,Bokaro,Rajmahal,Hazaribag & chatra area. The availablity of prime cooking coal in india is quite meager.the Jharia coal field is the only resources of prime coal in country

3.LIME STONE There are 33 mines of limestone in Jharkhand having total reserve of 563 million tones in Palamau,Hazaribagh,singbhum & Ranchi district.

4.GRAPHITE The graphite reserve of jharkhand are mainly located in Palamau district located at Sokra Satbarba & Barwadih where both flaky & amorphous graphite occures in lumpy form. A reserve of 0.6 million tones with 50-60% carban content has been estimated at Sokra.

5.GRANITE & ORNAMENTAL STONE Extensive deposite of granite & ornamental stones such as dolomites,gabber,peridolite, banded hematite jasper & migmatites etc are available in Jharkhand.

6.MICA Jharkhand which is having 46% of the mica reserve contains 84 mines,is leading producer of mica in the country.

7.COPPER ORE Rich deposite of copper ore occures in East Singbhum region & 4 copper mines in Jharkhand
