 Pupils have followed a broad and balanced curriculum throughout Years 7 and 8 which provides a real foundation to their learning experiences.  At end of Year 8, pupils progress and begin to mature into Year 9 with some opportunity to have a more personalised curriculum.

 Our core value of ‘Personal Best’ is to educate all pupils to their maximum potential.  We recognise that in Year 9 students are beginning to become more engaged in areas of ‘INTEREST’ to them and which suit their abilities.  We aim to build on this by offering a degree of choice in their courses to sustain and build on their motivation for learning, and extend their skills and knowledge.  Elements of this begin a ‘Personalisation’ curriculum in Year 9 and takes full shape in Key stage 4 into GCSE courses. Breadth and entitlement to be determined by government.

Year 9 September All pupils continue to do the core of English, Maths, Science, RE and PE, along with History, Geography and a relevant course in Languages*. In some subjects which are currently studied up to the end of KS4 / Year 11. GCSE learning can begin in Year 9, including moving towards triple, core and additional in Science. With changes to the school day, tutorial curriculum has been given a consistent allocation of time and will have more focus next year. These will include; Numeracy, Literacy, Current Affairs, Careers, Sex / Health and Enterprise Education. These will also be delivered by specialist teams in whole school PDL days.

 In addition, pupils will have some choices with the ‘Arts’ and Technology subjects. Why?  To broaden their experiences in their areas of ‘interest’.  To begin to discover new and different ways of learning more in line with later KS4 courses, invaluable to all subject areas.  To spend more time on areas of interest, ability and giving pupils a real ‘foundation’ in these subjects, and if they so choose (or are able to) continue beyond Year 9.

SPRING TERM IN YEAR 9, FULL CURRICULUM PROCESS FOR KEY STAGE 4, ‘EXAM’ COURSES. Level 2 Courses are those which enable students to achieve equivalent to A*/C or 9 to 1 grading in core and Ebacc subjects.  GCSE – General Certificate of Secondary Education.  OCR Level 2 National Award.  English Baccalaureate. Suite of subjects achieved at 5 A*/C which currently include English, Maths, Single Sciences, Core Science, Additional Science, Geography, History and a Modern Foreign Languages. No decisions for choices made now, will restrict or otherwise, pupil opportunities at Key Stage 4 GCSE’s.

 Dance, Drama, Art, Media, Music, and an additional second language of either French and Spanish. (Not currently being studied)  Pupils will be able to choose two of these subjects to follow throughout Year 9.  A clear numbered 1 to 4 preferences should be given on the return slip, which will be used in the event of a major imbalance in uptake. Form to be handed in via tutor to Mr Way please.

To move the subjects of ICT and technology into line with 21 st century demands of design, production, computing and business we have combined this area of the school curriculum. Food Technology, Fashion Textiles, Product Design, Computing and Programming. Pupils will all take one ICT period as now but have some opportunity to select other subject areas from those listed above. This will be arranged by the New Technologies department
