3 What is the Partnership for Food Protection (PFP)? A partnership of Federal, State & Local officials, established in 2009, working together to protect the nation’s food supply and public health by contributing to the development & implementation of an Integrated Food Safety System (IFSS) The PFP is responsible for developing tools, resources, and best practices that advance an IFSS, but it is up to the individual strategic partners to utilize these items in their daily business The PFP is not a policy setting body

PFP Operational Structure Since the state workshop, a formal governance structure was developed, which created the PFP Governing Council (GC) PFP is comprised of a Governing Council, who is the leadership body for the partnership, and various Workgroups The PFP GC has formalized decision-making processes Continually trying to improve processes for Workgroups

Some Responsibilities of the PFP Governing Council To be responsible for overall leadership, management, and direction of PFP To identify strategic areas that further the development of an IFSS To establish workgroups as needed, and provide support and guidance Develop PFP reports, receive and review plans from workgroups

National Program Standards Crosswalk Resource Paper Provides a comparison of 4 Regulatory Program Standards Document identifies commonalities and differences among four standards Provides comparison of key program elements o Grade “A” Milk and Milk Products o Manufactured Foods o Retail Food Protection o Molluscan Shellfish

PFP Model for Routine Work Planning & Coordination In October 2013, PFP released the best practice document entitled “Model for Federal/State Planning and Coordination of Field Operations and Training” ( a.k.a. the Work planning Document )

PFP Food/Feed Testing Laboratory Best Practices Manual Developed for food/feed testing laboratories to facilitate acceptance of laboratory analytical data by regulatory agencies Provides tools, definitions, and references Consists of 7 chapters: 1. Laboratory Accreditation 5. Methods 2. Regulatory Annex6. Analytical Worksheet Packages 3. Proficiency Testing7. Reporting 4. Sampling

PFP Business Process Evaluation and Improvement Tool for Inspection Systems Developed to help programs: o Gain a detailed understanding of their program’s business processes related to inspections, o Identify improvements, and o Serve as a mechanism to form requirements for IT inspection systems Defines nine core areas shared across inspection programs

PFP Common Data Elements July 2014 – “Data Elements and Definitions” Document released as a resource o Compilation of 27 most common and usual data elements o Provides a platform for accepted terms o Intended to be used as information when updating or replacing IT systems

Animal Feed Network (AFN) AFN was launched on July 25, 2014 AFN consists of two reporting portals: PETNet and LivestockNet Members are government officials from Federal, State, and Territorial agencies Only surveillance tool used to inform members of animal feed issues as reported by their peers

The Workshop focused on implementation of the PFP’s Vision for the IFSS and the roll-out of the draft PFP’s Strategic Plan Participants in breakout sessions were asked to comment and offer suggestions on the draft goals, objectives and activities in the Plan Expected outcomes included plans for future Workgroups, pilot projects, and processes for advancing integration objectives in the Strategic Plan Purposes for the State Workshop
