OSMOSIS Osmosis is a form of passive transport where the solvent water molecules move from an area of high water concentration to an area of low water.

Section 8.1 Summary – pages Diffusion is the movement of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. Osmosis:
Passive Transport transport of molecules across the cell membrane that does not require energy! 3 Types: 3 Types: 1) Diffusion 2) Osmosis 3) Facilitated.

Biology 1 Packet II Lab Plasmolysis in Carrots

Copy this information on Pg. 17 in your Packet: Osmosis = Diffusion of water. Water moves from area of high to low Concentration! Plasmolysis = When cells lose water. Carrots = Cells make up living things. Carrots are a bunch of cells. Cells = Have a lot of water inside of them. Lose of water = Carrots will shrink and become firm Gain of water = Carrots will get bigger and soften

Freshwater puts cells in a Hyportonic Condition! Fresh Water = Higher Water Concentration Carrot = Lower Water Concentration

Saltwater puts cells in a Hypertonic Condition! Salt Water = Lower Water Concentration Carrot = Higher Water Concentration
