RCC MATH 98 (96) ORMATYC – 2015 Doug Gardner
We need to teach the students that are present … ask them why they are really here! What they know 6 months from now is all that matters. Learning math is not like building a house. We agree context is important … it is more a question of finding good ideas for engaging context. Algebra is about relationships … yah the boring kind with numbers!
What factors effect deflection (bend) of a beam? weight, length, material, shape What happens to deflection as we increase the weight? What happens to deflection as we increase the length? How does beam deflection (bending) work?
