THE HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE SECTOR The Health and Social Care sector is estimated to employ 1.6 million people. There are employers in the Health and Social Care sector. The following employers are currently looking for staff; Local Authorities NHS Voluntary Organisations Private sector Individual Service User

WHAT YOU COULD DO WITH BTEC HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE? You are more likely to be accepted onto further courses in… Dental Nursing, Healthcare Assistant, Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Social Work and A levels in Sociology and Psychology.

SO HOW IS THE BTEC HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE COURSE GOING TO HELP ME? This course will help people who are interested in a career in the health or social care sector. It is relevant for people who would like to work in a home/day care or residential care setting or a career working with children, young people, adults or older people.

What is The First Award? The BTEC First Award is equivalent to 1 GCSE A*-C grade. You will have to opt for this in 1 option column and you will be taught 5 lessons per fortnight over the 2 years. You will have to sit 1 examination (which you can resit up to 4 times) and you will have to produce 3 portfolio’s of evidence similar to coursework.

What is The First Certificate? The BTEC First Certificate is equivalent to 2 GCSE’s A*-C grades. You will have to opt for this in 2 option columns and you will be taught 10 lessons per fortnight over the 2 years. You will have to sit 2 examinations (which you can resit twice each) and you will have to produce 5 portfolio’s of evidence similar to coursework.
