Overview Of NGN & IP TAX

AGENDA Present Generation Network Concept of NGN NGN Architecture Concept of IPTAX For internal circulation of BSNLonly

PRESENT GENERATION NETWORK Internet Gateways Wireless PSTN For internal circulation of BSNLonly

For internal circulation of BSNLonly COMPARISON NETWORK ACCESS CORE DESIGNED SWITCHING FOR PRINCIPLE PSTN Wires / LE TAX Voice Circuit PLMN Air / BTS/BSC MSC Voice Circuit PSPDN From Router Data Packet Different N/W /Router For internal circulation of BSNLonly

PRESENT GENERATION NETWORK • Fixed line usage is reducing dramatically • Mobile use is increasing steadily • Broadband Internet deployment shows a rapid growth trend. • As per a study IP traffic increases 10 fold every year while voice traffic is relatively flat. For internal circulation of BSNLonly

PRESENT GENERATION NETWORK • Complexity in maintenance-Increased operational expenditure • Difficulty in deployment of new services. • Proprietary protocols between the network entities resulting into expensive add-ons. • Demand of innovative services from customers For internal circulation of BSNLonly

Convergence

(Equipment Convergence) ITU – 5 point Definition 1. Integration of Customer End Equipments/Access devices such as Telephones, TV and PC. (Equipment Convergence)

Convergence ? 2. Provision of various Communication services such as Text, Data, Image, Multimedia and Video services over the existing Infrastructure or over a single Transmission medium. (Medium Convergence)

Convergence ? 3. Capability of same Technology to offer various services. (Technology Convergence) 4. Different services under a converged licensing regime. 5. Fixed Mobile substitution/Convergence

CONCEPT OF NGN Target Standards Area A NGN is a packet-based network able to provide telecommunication services and able to make use of multiple broadband, QoS-enabled transport technologies and in which service-related functions are independent from underlying transport-related technologies. It offers unrestricted access by users to different service providers. It supports generalized mobility which will allow consistent and ubiquitous provision of services to users. Definition of NGN (Draft Rec. Y.2001) Target Standards Area Generalized Mobility Unrestricted Access Convergence btw. Fixed & Mobile Open Access I/F Separation Services with Transport Architecture and Open API QoS-enabled Transport Manageable Broadband Multiple-Broadband

Regional Telecom Training centre Features of NGN Packet-based network QoS-enabled transport technologies Service-related functions are independent of transport- related technologies Offers unrestricted access by users (Open Interface) Supports generalized mobility - Convergence btw. Call Server / Soft Switch Common IP MPLS Transport CONCEPT OF NGN PSTN Switch NGN Components Call Server / Soft Switch Call Control Routers of Switching IP/MPLS Network Interfaces Gateways TDM Transport Network Common IP MPLS Transport For internal circulation of BSNLonly

Regional Telecom Training centre FEATURES OF NGN ·  Packet-based network · Very High-Speed Network from access to core · Network providing generalized mobility: · Unified and Universal Networks · Centralized Control Open Interfaces Common transport Regional Telecom Training centre

Regional Telecom Training centre

Regional Telecom Training centre ARCHITECTURE of NGN ·  Access Layer ·  Transport Layer · Control Layer (Soft-Switch) · Service Layer Regional Telecom Training centre

Regional Telecom Training centre

Regional Telecom Training centre Access Layer Access Layers is responsible for direct subscriber attachment function. NGN is capable of processing traffic originated from PSTN, GSM, CDMA, xDSL, WiMAX or any other access system. Access Layer consists of Gateways. Trunk Media Gateway, Line Media gateway and Signaling gateway. Regional Telecom Training centre

Regional Telecom Training centre Media Gateway The MG performs the task of packetizing voice and providing connections from switched circuits (TDM) to packetized circuits (IP) Regional Telecom Training centre

Functions of Media Gateway • Voice encoding • Packetization of voice channels • CNF (Comfort Noise Generation) • VAD (Voice Activity Detection) • Echo Cancellation For internal circulation of BSNLonly

Regional Telecom Training centre Signaling gateway: The SG should be capable of providing conversions between SS7 addresses (point codes) and IP addresses. Regional Telecom Training centre

Regional Telecom Training centre Transport Layer Transport Layer forms the core of the Network. It basically consists of Routers Transport Layer of NGN is based on IP/ MPLS. Regional Telecom Training centre

Regional Telecom Training centre Control Layer It consists of call servers NGN may work on soft switch principle. MGC (Media Gateway Controller) Regional Telecom Training centre

Softswitch (Media gateway controller) The call handling is performed at the MGC The MGC is responsible for controlling all the MGs within its zone. The MGC also determines the QoS required for any one connection at the MG. Regional Telecom Training centre

Functions of Soft Switch • Based upon Open Architecture • Provide all existing services available in TDM network • Performs Media Gateway Control Function For internal circulation of BSNLonly

Functions of soft switch Performs Call control, signaling and Interworking Traffic measurement and recording functions Provides Addressing, Analysis, routing and charging facilities Interacts with Application Server to supply services not hosted on Softswitch For internal circulation of BSNLonly

Service or Application Layer Enhanced services to the subscribers will be provided with the help of application servers. It may include prepaid servers, announcement servers, Service servers Regional Telecom Training centre

Functions of Announcement Server • Announcement server performs the function of giving the announcements as per requirements in the network For internal circulation of BSNLonly

Network Management System The Network Management System (NMS) manages all network elements in a Soft switch network. It typically uses SNMP to communicate with the network elements. Regional Telecom Training centre

Integrated Access Devices The Integrated Access Device (IAD) provides voice or voice and data services for individuals, and SOHO subscribers by connecting the subscribers´ terminal equipment such as PC, telephone and fax machine into the packet network. Regional Telecom Training centre
