Proficy Real-Time Information Portal - Technical

Proficy Portal Architecture Proficy Portal is a web-based java application that runs under the Microsoft IIS webserver. Proficy Portal includes three client applets: the Client, which supports both runtime and configuration mode; the Administrator and the Statement Builder. Applets are downloaded and run inside the java runtime engine running within a web browser. The server runs the Proficy Portal Servlet, which provides file and user management and the connector infrastructure. SQL based connectors use jdbc drivers installed on the server to connect to relational data sources, while real-time and historical connectors use local or remote api interfaces.

Technical Overview Server Side Installation and Maintenance Requires IIS or Apache web server Maintained from Administrator applet, near-zero maintenance Client Side Requires JRE (automatically installed from server first time if needed) No client side maintenance Remote Connectors Installed from Server website

Configuration Tools Display Variables Parameterized Data Sources - Portal displays expose variables as input and output parameters such that variables can be initialized before loading a display through hyperlinks or symbols. Parameterized Data Sources - Users can parameterize their data sources to easily create screens once and roll them out to multiple sites. Gauge and Slider Objects A gauge can be used to display the values of the data source it is linked to. For example, if the data source provides information about the temperature of a liquid stored in a tank, you can create a linear gauge that looks and acts like a thermometer, where the pointer or fill track moves as the temperature values change. Gauges can be used to display real time and historical data. The gauges available are dial, linear, and numeric. A slider control displays numeric values and can be linked to data source parameters and/or exposed properties of other objects in a display, such as gauges. Axes Titles for XY, Time, Event, and Correlation Charts Provides the ability to show the X and Y axes titles for all pens on XY, Time, Event, and Correlation charts. These properties are available on the Axes Titles tab on the configuration panels for these four charts. If you specify the X or Y axes titles on the chart's Axes Titles tab, they take precedence over the X or Y Axis title specified on the Y Axis tab of the chart's Data tab. Open Event to Populate display with Data Source Values When a button is linked to another object, such as a chart or grid, you can choose to require the object to be refreshed manually, or you can choose to enable the object's data source to automatically populate the object with default values when the display it is associated with first opens.

Display Enhancements Configurable Pen Names Expression Pen Names - allows users to give custom names to pens in a chart making it easier to track the pens in the legend. Expression Pen Names - Allows users to modify pen names used in expressions to be more meaningful Gauge and Slider Objects A gauge can be used to display the values of the data source it is linked to. Performance Enhancements On Demand Data Source Loading Ability to connect to data sources on an as needed basis rather than on startup improving the startup time of Proficy Portal. Time Chart Slider Number of data samples and duration can be specified on data request to Historian servers. This allows for optimum retrieval of data over a long period of time resulting in improved performance while analyzing historical trends. Usability Enhancements Data Source Editing Enhancement - Users can now edit the data source configuration directly thus allowing tweaks to be easily made. Statement Builder Enhancement Improved error handling when dealing with user created stored procedures. 64 Bit OS Support - Proficy Portal works in WOW mode on 64 bit OS Gauge and Slider Objects A gauge can be used to display the values of the data source it is linked to.
