In the movie Finding Nemo, the writer develops the theme of independence in order to convey the importance of growing into who we are as individuals.

 The theme of independence is developed first when Nemo’s dad is overprotective.

 This is shown when Nemo’s father won’t let him go to the drop off.

 Nemo wants the freedom to have normal childhood experiences that his father is too afraid to allow him to have.

 This relates to the human condition, because all of us have experienced the need to freely express ourselves as individuals.
