The science is the key to the proposal, without the science the proposal has little chance. What infrastructure do the researchers need? Single or Multi-institutional proposal? Do you have someone that knows the faculty’s research? University requirements for proposal?

Staff that liaison with Faculty to understand their research and connect them with IT Staff and services they need. Help identify infrastructure needs. Identify researchers that fit for the proposal. Have proposal writing expertise. Handled the submission of proposal.

Team members: PI and co-PIs Faculty Liaison (ARC) Researchers Task Master (ARC) IT Staff Proposal Writer (ARC)

Increase capacity to Cyber Infrastructure – 100GE to HPC Modular Data Center – 100GE to Research MACC – 100GE to Internet2 and other R&E networks – Multiple 10GE to 3D Visualization LAB Network Testing and Performance Platform ScienceDMZ integrating DYNES/ION/AL2S, GENI, SDN/Openflow services.

Wanted to test the links before we implemented them in the production. Tested both Layer2 forwarding and Layer3 forwarding. Limited time and traffic generation resources – Used perfSONAR boxes with 40GE interfaces to generate traffic. – Single box could generate ~50-60Gbps in both directions.

Desired platforms that support 40Gbps and 100Gbps NICs Initial quoted boxes for the project only supported 10GE NICs Had to wait for IvyBridgev2 Processors to be released. – Support for PCIv3 x8 needed for 40GE card – Support for PCIv3 x16 needed for 100GE card
