First-Year Engineering Program Engineering H191 Engineering Fundamentals and Laboratory I Week 08 Day 03 AutoCAD Introduction

First-Year Engineering Program 2AU 2007 AutoCAD Survey of OSU grads – teach AutoCAD Will this be true in five years? Others say teach a parametric solid modeler – Inventor, Solid Works, Solid Edge, Pro-E, CATIA, etc. (ME and IWSE) What do we provide? A copy of AutoCAD 2008 and enough tutorial material to become familiar with AutoCAD for co-op / internship

First-Year Engineering Program 3AU 2007 AutoCAD Background 2 D package originally Command line driven Layered approach – Lines on one layer, dimensions on a second layer, title on a third layer, etc. Now has 3D capability but is not as easy to use as inventor Now has a better user interface More CAD seats than any other program Many third party ‘add-on’ packages that work with AutoCAD to provide specific functions

First-Year Engineering Program 4AU 2007 AutoCAD Chapters in Inventor / AutoCAD Tutorial Introduction – Getting Started Ch 1 – AutoCAD Fundamentals Ch 2 – Basic Object Construction Tools Ch 3 - Geometric Construction and Editing Tools Ch 5 – Orthographic Views in Multi-view Drawings Ch 6 – Basic Dimensioning and Notes Ch 7 – Templates and Plotting
