Double degree programme One year at Aalto, one year somewhere else (includes compulsory mobility) M.Sc. degree from both universities Joint curriculum Compulsory internship (at exit university location) Master’s thesis in joint supervision

Master of Science (Technology) degree Fixed curriculum 56 + 4 ECTS (entry year) or 24 + 6 + 30 ECTS (exit year) from Aalto Compulsory courses Electives (restricted list of courses) Language courses*, methodological principles courses Master’s thesis 30 ECTS Degree: 120 ECTS exactly or as close as possible  exceeding ECTS credits will not appear on the diploma, but on a separate certificate

Learning agreements + schedules Language course Option A: Pre-booked seats for English course (LC-something or Kie-something) marked in your model schedules  confirm participation by attending the first class Option B: Choose another English course independetly Option C: Take at least 3 ECTS of Finnish, apply for compensation with the form at https://into.aalto.fi/display/enmastersci/Forms (return to Stefanie) Adjustments Possible – discuss with professor of the major (professor’s approval needed) Schedules Always follow the Noppa pages for updated information and course material If the model schedule becomes completely unsuitable for you, you can make your own schedule by using the student-developed app: http://www.lukkarit.fi.

Mobility

Limitation to study time Master’s programme = Full-time study programme 2 years with 30 ECTS / semester At least 80 % of the ECTS credits of the entry year must be completed before start of exit year (or else, mobility may be denied) Missing courses at Aalto after entry year  problems with residence permit extension, enrollment (app. 50 EUR extra), examination arrangements, accommodation… Tuition at Aalto ends by 31 May Study time and study success monitored by the academic and administrative staff Study success reported to Master School Office

Keys to success in EIT ICT Labs Master School Arrive on time in the beginning of the semester. Prepare to study full-time. Follow the curriculum. Abide by the universities’ regulations and statutes. Be proactive and independent in search for information – there are always people here to help you, but encouraging students to be independent and take responsibility is part of the core ideology of Finnish universities. Be an active respondent to any feedback surveys sent to you and participate in the development of the programme.

Should any problems occur… Notify your study coordinator immediately of any changes in circumstances which may affect your ability to follow the programme (i.e. you get sick and miss an exam and have to retake it, or you must suddenly leave home for personal reasons etc.) And if necessary, see a doctor immediately! Not only for your own health and wellbeing, but also because notifications in retrospective (“I was so sick last semester that I couldn’t attend the courses”) don’t help.

Practical matters Residence permits Initiate your residence permit application to your exit university immediately as soon as you receive the admission letter! Note that you need a valid (Finnish or other) residence permit during the summer school too! If you need to extend your Finnish residence permit after 31 July, you must also enroll for the next academic year.

Enrollment at Aalto By Finnish law, all university students must be members of the Student Union, i.e. enrollment requires payment of AYY fee You must be enrolled as attending at Aalto always when you pursue studies to be registered, i.e.: The whole entry year Autumn semester of the exit year if you have any pending courses after 31 July (otherwise, you can enroll as non-attending) Spring semester of exit year, when you write your Master’s thesis. The semester of graduation (possibility for reimbursement).

Health care and insurance FSHS student health care = first option always By paying the fee students are entitled to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS)  http://www.yths.fi/en. Basic medical care, gynecologist, mental health care, physiotherapists, and oral health care. Available during office hours only No hospital or emergency services Public health care by using European Social Security Card Tapiola health station is the closest Only for emergency treatments

EIT ICT Labs Master School insurance You can visit any physician available (public or private) Pay first yourself, and claim for reimbursement later EIT ICT Labs Master School Office and study advisor Helena Törnkvist will help you with insurance issues Insurance certificates coming up
