Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) Best teachers for anyone, anywhere, free Mimic a university course, but conduct it online Course announced, sign-up, see lectures (12-15 minute capsules), do online assignments, write online exams, get an unofficial completion certificate (at your pace & time) All evaluations are honour code based – no proctoring Popular portals (out of Stanford) (out of MIT) Upcoming: (edX+Google) Classic: One of the biggest education phenomena in recent times Key Concern: lack of certification

Motivation for certification IT / High Tech Industry Main driver of growth for the future Projected requirement: several hundred thousand hires every year Potential recruits need to be good at programming Engineering Education Has numbers, but does not provide sufficient number of employable graduates Graduates lack confidence in basics Not comfortable with programming on Day 1

NOC - How it works? New MOOCs will be offered 2 or 3 times every year Announcements, advertisements before each offering Students register on the web portal and take the MOOC Write “honour-code-based” online assignments / exams Not proctored, no fee, open to all After passing MOOC, students can register for in-person, proctored exam Exam: Online(CBT), like GATE Certificate will provide a score based on the proctored exam Certificate will be e-verifiable
