February 19, 2015 PERSUASION and TARGET AUDIENCE Start the Day Right! Ho mework: Review your notes. Objective I can identify target audiences and evaluate how persuasive techniques in media seek to target certain audiences. W arm Up: Copy the date and objective into your notes. Think about the types of commercials that you see on different channels. How do commercials differ based on the channel that you are watching? Why are they different?

customer awareness when advertisers direct the right message to the right people

target audience a specific population or group of people an advertiser hopes to persuade.

demographics the characteristics a group of people have in common. Advertisers study this data to research the interests, activities and spending habits of a target audience and then develop products, packaging and ads that are designed to appeal to that audience.

Turn to pg. 966 in your Literature book and read the paragraph entitled "How far will we go to improve ourselves?" Then discuss your thoughts in your groups.

public service announcement a non-commercial media or print advertisement that seeks to generate public awareness of a social issue, such as safety, health or education. They are informational and educational, but also persuasive - intended to bring about change in people's attitudes or behaviors.

So now turn to pg. 348 in your IR book. Start the Day Right!
