What years where the major discoveries of gold. Early gold discoveries in Australia were kept a secret as many feared a gold rush would erupt the largely convict population into chaos and lawlessness. Although the rush to California depleted the new colonies small population and forced the authorities to think differently about Australian gold. Gold is found in rocks and in the ground. People came to look for gold in Australia. It was called the Gold Rush. It was a hard life digging for gold. Some people became rich but lots did not.

How to find gold the simplest way to find gold is to pan for it, in a shallow metal dish that has a wide edge to it, though any bowl can be used in a pinch. First, blacken your dish so the gold will shine against it. place your dish above a fire or in an oven and heat it until it darkens, don't let the smoke blacken it. Soot makes the gold flakes greasy and when you put water in it later the greasy flakes will float and you will lose your gold.
