Information Literacy: the concept behind many tutorials

Information Literacy Recognize when information is needed, be able to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the information. Lifelong learners Critical thinking skills Shapes many library instruction programs

Information Literacy Criteria Determine the extent of information needed Access needed information effectively and efficiently Evaluate information critically Incorporate selected information into knowledge base Use information effectively Access and use information ethically and legally

PRIMO Committee

PRIMO committee academic librarians, two year terms Two tutorial review rounds per year Submit or nominate a project Advertise through library listservs and weblogs “Norming” review

PRIMO tutorials Spring 2009: 32 tutorials, 34% accepted Fall 2009: 23 tutorials, 57% accepted Scope: projects useful to higher education students. Must be a tutorial or project of some type, not just a web page with instructions.

Review Criteria Three committee members review each project Scores must equal at least 32 points. Criteria: relevant to others, pedagogically effective, use material innovatively and a model for other developers.
