GROUND WATER RESOURCES

To manage the available precious water potential to the optimum, SWaRMA has come out with a strong e-Governance tool, with inter-Sectorial common data base which will be a GIS based web enabled one. Apart from hydro-Metrological data, Water potential, Sectorial Demand, and Theme Layers, the numerically coded tank information as well as details of Water Users Association and PIM which have gathered momentum have also been incorporated in this web enabled GIS Based Data Base.

This data base will help in decision making for efficient integrated water resources management and regulation for better service delivery. This data base is a comprehensive solution for accessing water data, capable of geo-visualization and will help the administrators with e-Governance tool in the management and Basin planning of water resources and in taking Tamil Nadu forward to optimise the utilisation of created irrigation potential and to maximise crop production per unit of water.

Taking into consideration the sustainability and scope for improvising the data Base from time to time to match to the state of art of the subject this GIS based web enabled data base has been created using the available open source soft-wares, in-house by TN SWaRMA,. Government bodies can have factual data on water from this Web GIS interface, that can be used for decision making.

Maps and other non-spatial data related to many themes and parameters, collated from many departments and presented on a centralised and common platform for use by all concerned. This efficient sharing mechanism will keep everyone abreast with latest information. Data query, charting, and visualization will enhance the analytical depth, for providing rational and timely service to the public at large.
