Lesson 5-9 Faithfulness to Christ

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST What is faithfulness? Once we have placed our faith in Christ for salvation, we must continue to trust Christ to deliver us from sin and lead us in the right way. Steadfast confidence or continuing trust is called faithfulness.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Without faithfulness a believer will contribute little to the body of Christ, his love for Christ will shrink, and his interest in the world will increase.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Fruitfulness (John 15:1-8) Christ is the grapevine Believers are the branches God the Father is the gardener who tends the vine

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Fruitfulness (John 15:1-8) The gardener’s care We can’t bear fruit without God’s continual care. God takes responsibility for putting every believer where he can be fruitful. God takes great care in cleansing us

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Fruitfulness (John 15:1-8) The vine’s importance You can’t bear fruit faithfully without Christ’s continual sustenance. Any time a believer isn’t depending on the Lord, the result will be fruitlessness.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Fruitfulness (John 15:1-8) The vine’s importance Two aids in remaining faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ and being fruitful are ---- The Word of God Prayer

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Friendship with God (John 15:9-11) Faithful obedience to God results in various benefits that can be summed up as friendship with God.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Friendship with God (John 15:9-11) Friendship and Joy Obedience to Christ’s commands is the practical step to friendship with Him. Joy is a condition of inner being. A joyful person is satisfied that his life is pleasing to God and that he is doing all he can to live in communion with Christ.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Friendship with God (John 15:9-11) Friendship and Love Friendship with God cannot be enjoyed without obeying His command to love. We are to love one another as He has love us. Love for our neighbor is the second greatest command.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Friendship with God (John 15:9-11) Friendship and Understanding the Word The Bible is understood through the illumination of the Spirit. Two aspects of our understanding of the Word are a desire for spiritual knowledge and a determination to apply the Scriptures to our daily life.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Friendship with God (John 15:9-11) Friendship and Understanding the Word One of the great benefits of a relationship with Christ is illumination. Christ reveals His will through His Word. All Christians equally possess the Bible but not all equally understand the Bible.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Friendship with God (John 15:9-11) Friendship and Answers to Prayer Certainty of opposition When Christians are unwilling to go along with the world’s ungodliness there will be opposition. The world feels justified in hating Christians and openly opposing them.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Friendship with God (John 15:9-11) Friendship and Answers to Prayer Certainty of opposition The world wants a god it can control, not the One Who controls it. They don’t want the God to Whom they must submit. As the world hated Christ, they hate the believer.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Friendship with God (John 15:9-11) Friendship and Answers to Prayer Help in opposition The Spirit is to be our Comforter, helper or encourager. He will help us be a witness. He will help us be strong.

FAITHFULNESS TO CHRIST Faithfulness and Fruitfulness (John 15:1-8) We must be faithful to Christ to be fruitful. We must be faithful to Christ to develop a close friendship with Him. If we are faithful to Christ, we can expect opposition from the world.

FOR THURSDAY Read Lesson Read Matthew 10:32-39 Seventh graders do even numbers. Eighth graders do odd numbers. Study for a notes quiz over lessons 5-6 through 5-9. I will give you a little bit of time in class to study or ask questions.
