University of Northern BC UNBC Pension Plan Annual General Meeting April 4, 2011

University of Northern BC Board of Trustees:  The UNBC Pension Plan is managed by a Board of Trustees. The board is comprised of both University appointed and Member Trustees.

University of Northern BC University Trustees  Chair – Eileen Bray (Vice-President Administration and Finance)  Sheila Page (Director, Human Resources)  Colleen Smith (Director, Finance and Budgets)  Betty Ann Shiels (External)

University of Northern BC Member Trustees  John Orlowsky(CUPE Rep)  Shelley Rennick (Director Rep)  William Chew (Exempt Rep)  Art Fredeen (Faculty Rep)

University of Northern BC Pension Plan Governance  The administration of the pension plan is vested wholly in the Trustees  Fund administration is supported by Sun Life  Independent investment advice is provided by Asset Performance Inc.  Assistance with compliance issues has been provided in the past by Towers Watson

University of Northern BC Investment/Administration Fees  Investment management, custodial and member record keeping fees are set by fund managers and Sun Life.  Administration fees are used to offset any expenses related to compliance with pension legislation, implementation of any changes in pension governance, independent advice, revision of existing pension documents, etc., and are set by the Trustees as part of budget process.

University of Northern BC Initiatives completed in 2010  Maintained and monitored compliance with the Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA) Pension Plan Governance Guidelines (ongoing).  Defined Contribution Pension Plan Trustee Training held on site in February  Effective March 1, 2010, the $4 per month Administration Fee was reinstated.  In May 2010, completed internal audit of CAPSA guidelines

University of Northern BC Initiatives completed in 2010 (cont)  October 1, 2010, a new fund was added to our investment selections: McLean Budden Responsible Balanced Segregated fund  In October 2010, new education sessions were offered to members on Investment Basics; How to Navigate the Web and on Government Services Available to Retirees in addition to Retirement Education Planning session

University of Northern BC Initiatives completed so far in 2011  Sub-committee established to review Pension Plan Document, Trustee Agreement and Statement of Investment Policies  Service contracts are being reviewed/negotiated with API Asset Performance and Sun Life

Further Initiatives for 2011  Organize Employee Investment Basics training for Fall 2011 (will alternate with Retirement Planning each fall)  Complete formal review & update Pension Plan Document, Trustee Agreement and Statement of Investment Policies  Complete investment review of Default Fund options

University of Northern BC Conclusion  The plan and its administrative processes are in compliance with all applicable legislation.  All filing deadlines have been met.
