What is the CAREC? Independent, non-for-profit and non-political organisation, created by the decision of the Pan-European Ministerial Conference (Aarhus, 1998) The Centres are working on intersectoral approach for Environmental and SD programmes Together with REC’s in Europe, Russia, Caucasus, Ukraine, Moldova CAREC makes a network Governments, NGOs, Business, Scientists and donors are in the Boards and Advisory Councils. Environmental Problems in CA Crisis of Aral Sea Basin (disaster of ecosystem) Land degradation Redaction of biodiversity Degradation of Mountain Ecosystems Caspian Sea Ecosystem degradation Negative consequences of Climate Change Transboundary pollution

Links of the CA Problems Main objectives of the CA SD Initiative to establish governments’ and sectors’ partnership in the process of development and implementation of the Central Asian SD Strategy and CA Convention with the focus on the ecosystem degradation, poverty, health

Assessment of resources Public participation Information, Analyses Assessment of ecosystems Assessment of consumption Education The Management System of Central Asia Territories SD Priorities of CA Concept of the Management System of Central Asia Territories

For a Management System creation it is necessary: Satellite images Spatial data in GIS format Spatial data in GIS format Model of further development of the situation Assessment of real situation Management System of the nature territories

Structure of GIS for Kazakhstan Topographic basis Scale 1: Coverage: Boundary Administration District Human Population Rivers & Canals Seas & Lakes Roads & Railroads Elevation Resources Coverage: Climate Geology Landscapes Relief Soils Vegetation Tectonic Geomorphology Hydrogeology Social & Demography Coverage: Oblasts Districts Cities Ecosystems Coverage: Nature Zones Classes of Relief Types of Relief Types of Soils Composition of Soils Types of Vegetation Types of Rangelands Forage Productivity of Rangelands

Productivity of rangeland (kg/ha)NDVI of rangeland Relationship between Productivity and NDVI of summer for 20 Nature Zones of Kazakstan RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FORAGE PRODUCTIVITY, TEMPERATURE AND NDVI FOR THE 20 NATURE ZONES OF KAZAKSTAN Using Spatial Data for modeling of forage productivity

The Point Data having the information on real productivity and NDVI data

The modeling result The Model block for the territories management The data Base of spatial data and satellite imagine

The Management System creation will be supporting:  Correct Assessment of real situation  Correct Assessment of factors having an impact on nature territories and situation  Correct Interpretation of possible crises  Model of further development of the situation  Chance to accept the correct decisions

Thank you for your attention!
