New capacities Pedagogically use of IT opens up new possibilities for: teaching learning assessment and can be much more humane and personal than most forms of conventional face-to-face classroom instruction.

Grasp new opportunities? ‘How do we encourage teachers to grasp the opportunities offered by the Internet more substantially rather than to utilize the technology to perpetuate traditional models ?

Traditional vs Internet learning student study time can be redistributed a better balance between ‘passive’ and ‘active’ learning ‘practicing and ‘articulating’ is increased Online learning creates a tutorial form where attending time is available in a different form and students can take their time to reflect and then respond Shifting the balance of student study activities :

New and Different ?? On-line education is more than a new delivery mode. It is a new learning domain which enables us as educators and as learners to engage in learning interactions more easily, more often, and perhaps more effectively, but also to develop qualitatively new and different forms of educational interactions. Harasim, 1989:62

Tolerating’ a different style of learning to occur Paper based  Formal  Linear  Teacher controlled

Chaotic learning ! Screen based  Seemingly chaotic  Constructivist  Multi-faceted approach  ‘P L A Y ’ is central

New and Different develop qualitatively new and different forms of educational interactions try out and make mistakes become lifelong learner with an international perspective rather than learning to merely “pass the examination

sufficiently open-minded change of mindset development of student-centred teaching practice creative use of innovative technologies a learning environment that is rich, varied, and supportive of a diverse range of learning styles Change of Mindset
